In the Preface to his autobiographical 'Travels' Michael Crichton (author of 'Jurassic Park') writes:
"Often I feel I go to some distant region of the world to be reminded of who I really am. There is no mystery of why this should be so. Stripped of your ordinary surroundings, your friends, your daily routines, your refrigerator full of your food, your closet full of your clothes - with all this taken away, you are forced into direct experience. Such direct experience inevitably makes you aware of who it is that is having the experience. That is not always comfortable, but it is always invigorating. I eventually realised that direct experience is the most valuable experience I can have..."
...
You're now looking at the Rio Grande which forms the boundary between Texas and Mexico - so the hills beyond are in Mexico. Behind me was a small impromptu camping area with several RVs, mostly hidden by small trees and low natural bluff (or cliff). I sat here that evening with my little petrol stove and boiled some coffee, then several eggs, I recall, watching the sun sink below the horizon as in the next shot, before turning in.
